Nika Feldman: In the Skin of a Lady

In the Skin of a Lady, was an interactive installation which consisted of 20 paper-mache female torso forms.  Each form was decorated with floral patterns from up-cycled garments.  The forms were part of a circus-themed tent, where one wall was a large painted canvas announcing “The International Congress of Oddities presenting for three days only…”.  There was a strap-on female form provided along with a polaroid camera, encouraging visitors to temporarily transform themselves into members of the freak show.

This work was initially inspired by the tent structures of the art fair in which it took place.  The work itself was a playful look into the idea of feminine identity.
